I hold a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Health Science with a concentration in Health and Wellness Professional studies from American Public University. I have strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, exercise physiology as well as nutrition. In addition, I have studied disease prevention and epidemiology, with a focus on public health and health promotion. The corporate wellness knowledge I have attained offers me the opportunity to implement programs for employees of corporations. The education I have achieved compliments being a life-long athlete, with a dance background, along with being a life time yoga practitioner and teaching for over a decade. My accomplishments include a half-marathon, Olympic distance triathlon , in addition to an advanced yoga practice, including the study of all eight limbs of yoga.
I have decided to continue my education by enrolling into a Master of Arts in Management program with a concentration in Human Resources Management. I also currently hold a Professional in Human Resources (aPHR) certification.
I am an E-RYT500 registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance, with over 3,000 hours of teaching experience. I am trained by Yoga Warriors International to help our service men and women who suffer from PTSD. In addition, I am a Group Fitness Instructor certified through ACE. I currently hold a BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
My training includes the constant and continuous study of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga System as well as a dedicated daily practice. All aspects of this ancient and healing practice are studied, including; benefits, anatomy, modifications, alignment, adjustments and philosophy. I am able to teach in a Mysore style setting, as well as Ashtanga Led classes with full Vinyasa Sanskrit counts. My open level Vinyasa classes include postures taken from the Ashtanga Yoga system and are incorporated into a flow class designed for all practitioners. Safety to students is my number one concern. My classes are designed to keep students safe while being challenged.
I work with multiple populations, including; triathletes, athletes, body builders, soldiers, first responders, senior citizens, PTSD sufferers and those with disabilities. I offer yoga for corporations, small businesses and athletic teams. Offering yoga in the workplace or as a supplement to sports training helps employees/team members reduce stress, relieve pain, calm the mind, while creating balance, flexibility and strength. Yoga creates a warm and welcoming environment and provides a sense of community. I offer private instructions for those who prefer to practice at home or appreciate private instruction.
Attending trainings, workshops and continuing education each year, with some of the most highly respected teachers in the yoga industry, allows me to share my study of this long tradition with students. Although, I have found that everything I need is right on my mat, within my daily practice.
Yoga is a life-time learning experience, I will forever be a student. Growing, learning and laughing with my students is one of my greatest joys.
Styles of Teaching:
Vinyasa: Combining breathe with movement to create an energy that will allow the body to form an effortless meditation in motion.
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga: Breath and movement are linked together in order to move through an intelligent and structured series of postures. Ashtanga is designed to create heat within the body, as well as quieting the chatter of the mind. This practice balances mind and body.
Hatha Yoga: All yoga is Hatha yoga. Generally, Hatha yoga is a gentle introduction to the basic postures of yoga.
Chair Yoga: Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga designed for those with injuries, senior citizens and anyone who is uncomfortable getting up and down off of a mat. This gentle yoga is practiced in a chair and/or standing using a chair for support.
Yoga Warriors: Trained with Lucy Cimini at Yoga Warriors International. Lucy designed a yoga practice to alleviate symptoms of PTSD and COSR for Military Personnel, Veterans, their families and First Responders.
Yin Yoga: Targets the connective tissue and the joints of the body, a complement to more active styles of yoga.
Restorative Yoga: A deeply relaxing style of yoga, an inactive practice, geared to heal, relax, relieve pain, reduce stress and balance energy.
